Legal assistance in family law is not meeting community needs and applications for pro bono assistance in family law continue to grow faster than any other area of law. Pro bono family law is an emerging area and Law Access is currently leading the way nationally in providing this type of pro bono legal service.
Examples of family law matters we have referred include:
- A victim of family violence with a young child and no assets obtained a property settlement of over $300,000.
- A pro bono barrister assisted four Aboriginal women at risk of losing contact with their children in a remote location.
- A young mother and victim of family violence attended a pro bono appointment for one-off advice and assistance with document preparation. The pro bono lawyer managed to obtain a grant of legal aid for the client.
