Law Access regularly refers employment law matters to pro bono lawyers and barristers. Newly arrived workers from non-English speaking backgrounds are particularly vulnerable to exploitation.

Felicity Clarke, Special Counsel of Hall+Wilcox, and barrister Bill Keane acted pro bono in an employment law matter referred by Law Access involving exploitation of a worker from a non-English speaking background.

After two days of hearing the Magistrate’s decision upheld the client’s underpayment claim for entitlements and leave. The court also found for the client on payslip breaches and superannuation breaches.

The Law Access Disbursements Fund which relies on the support of our donors was used to pay for an interpreter to enable proofing of witnesses in this case.
