Law Access does not assist with all areas of law. In particular, we do not assist with:
- Family law (other than Care and Protection)
- Restraining order matters (for applicants or respondents)
- Defamation matters, except for responding to a defamation claim for vulnerable applicants (eg. for complaint of family violence, sexual harassment or discrimination)
- Neighbour or strata disputes, including dividing fences disputes (except for referral to mediation where both parties agree)
- Building disputes
- Drafting wills, enduring powers of attorney or guardianship, or advanced health directives
- Uncontested deceased estates
- Minor traffic or criminal law matters
- Complex commercial disputes or business matters
- Worker’s Compensation, personal injury and negligence (where “no-win-no-fee” services are available)
- Social security (except if at Administrative Appeal Tribunal level or above)
- Representation in internal complaint or other processes designed for self-representation
Law Access is also unable to help if:
- they are able to get help from other legal services
- they can afford a lawyer or already have a lawyer helping them
- their matter is too urgent or too complex
- they do not have a connection to WA
